The school year is upon us and we have a great list of events lined up! 2017-18 was a fantastic year, but alas we said goodbye to some truly dedicated volunteers as their final student was promoted to middle school. That means we need YOU to fill their shoes. If volunteers were willing to take on just one project for the year, it greatly reduces the demands on a smaller number of people. There are a lot of different kinds of opportunities that fit all sorts of schedules. Don't forget to complete your volunteer clearance application! All volunteers must resubmit clearances every year.
Submit your application here! Below is a list of events that need chairs and/or committee members. Grounds/Welcome Committee (Year round): There is a small landscaped area in the front of the school that needs upkeep. The area was fixed up by a local non-profit partner a few years ago, but the upkeep was left to us. This committee would be responsible for making sure the area looks nice, is well planted, and cared for throughout the year. Additionally, at times we like to decorate the sidewalks and area around the school for special events (Back to School, PSSAs, etc.) This committee would organize that process. All of the work for this committee can be done after school hours and on weekends. Family Kickball Tournament (Fall - Date TBD): The 2nd Annual Family Kickball Tournament will be held in the fall. This committee would be responsible for reserving Reeve's Park, collecting supplies for the game, obtaining prizes and refreshments, and managing team registrations. The event is held on a weekend, so much of this work is done outside of school hours. Grandparents & Special Friends Day (Fall - Date TBD): This event is a favorite Barkley tradition. Most of the day's events are planned by a committee of faculty members, so the HSA liason would work with them on organizing the breakfast donations, setting up for the event, providing a small thank you gift for grandparents, running a 50/50 raffle, and a trivia contest for the guests. Volunteers also assist with helping grandparents and friends get around the building. This event requires some daytime on-site commitment on the day of the event, but much of the planning and setup can be done after hours. Clearances are required. Veteran's Day (Fall - Date TBD): This event requires minimal work, but is designed to organize volunteers to assist the faculty committee with a small breakfast for the vets and other needs. This event takes place during the school day. Clearances are required. Author's Day (Spring - Date TBD): Author's Day is another collaborative event with a faculty committee. Volunteers would assist in setting up the luncheon, book sales, and other needs. This event takes place during the school day. Clearances are required. Ultimate Tournament of Champions (Spring - Date TBD): The UTC chair works closely with Mr. Dunleavy to plan the events for the night as well as recruit students and families to attend. The committee also sets up the refreshment stand and handles ticket sales as well as a 50/50 raffle. This event takes place in the evening, but is on school property so clearances are required. Field Day (Spring - Date TBD): The Field Day chair works with Mr. Dunleavy to recruit volunteers, help with setup and execution of Field Day, and provide popsicles and water stations. This event takes place during the school day. Clearances are required. KidStuff Coupon Books (New this year!): This fundraiser is new this year, but not new to the district. A chair and committee would plan the launch of the fundraiser and then manage unsold books as well as the distribution of products after purchase. Teacher Appreciation Luncheon (May - Date TBD): The TAL co-chairs will plan a themed lunch in honor of our teachers. The event requires the planning and setup of the luncheon as well as prizes for games and raffles, and a small gift for staff. This event requires planning both before and during the school day. Clearances are required for those volunteers who work during the actual luncheon.
